About Me....
Kavita K Thakkar studied Commerce at H R college of Commerce & Economics and after holding a Masters degree for the same from the university of Mumbai went on to learn a few short term classes just as a hobby. But its been an intresting journey journey from a double graduate commerce student to a craft professional.
Even though I was academically inclined I had unusual aptitude and intrest for crafts .
But my knowledge of commerce has always been useful along with the rare skills that I have mastered over the years as I run classes for various papercraft courses and also sell my beautiful artwork through exhibitions and fairs.
Although it was not difficult for me to enter this profession as I started of at home an initial small investment is required .But you need to make a bit of marketing efforts to sell the products that you make.
I began taking summer classes for gift wrapping at home just to put to use what I learned after completing my studies. The classes became a success and ever since there has been “ No looking back”. Few of my friends and my teachers supported and inspired me to build a career in this immensely satisfying profession.
My first few students and customers were though an advertisement in a local newspaper.
When you plan to set up on your own business, write down your business plan. The income you expect, the taxes you may have to pay and all the laws that will relate to you.
There have been cases of people who have taken up a full time job like a teacher, investor and then give it all up for returning to their hobbies. They have become full time writers, artists, giving their whole to what they love.
To have a mind for craft, one should be creative and use one's internal resources to bring out his/her talent. From greeting cards, to wrapping gifts, making flowers from paper using craft punches called punch craft to the beautiful parchment craft, paper quilling and many more intresting crafts like tea bag folding which originates in Holland there are many who work from home doing art and craft jobs.
